A perfectly made bed

With so much not quite right with the world, I have to focus on what I can control.

I learned from Gretchen Rubin, one of my most helpful authors, something that can really start my day with a moment of happiness is my bed well made. This also helps to put everything on a positive path before I leave my room.

To help make this even better, I got a new spread and shams and even a couple of throw pillows for Christmas from my mother-in-law.

So even though I did not know what all this day would bring, I started with a moment of order and happiness. In the days to come, these moments may be harder to find so I will choose to make at least this one before I leave my room each morning.

  1. I followed the “make your bed every morning” routine all throughout college, and I really did find that it would set my day up for success. I’ve fallen away from it since. I need to get back to it!

    • And for some the opposite is also true. If you were forced to make your bed, you can get happiness from just leaving it. I have not once come home to a made bed and wished I hadn’t made it. Sometimes I just have to say – well at least I made my bed today!

  2. For some reason, this is a hard habit for me to form and stick to, even though I love how a well-made bed looks. And I read a good post from Gretchen Rubin yesterday about staying calm and avoiding anxiety during a pandemic. She’s such a calming writer and thinker!
